BIOGRAPHY
“Impact and Influence with a Breath of Life” are the words that keep Jes'ka Washington moving on a daily basis, working towards a vision and mission that was birthed within her soul. Jes’ka was born in California, but soon relocated to Langston, Oklahoma. It was here she found the power of the pen and began writing poetry and short stories at the age of 10.
Throughout the twists and turns of life, Jes'ka's literary visions slowly began to dim, but before the corporate lifestyle could smother her creativity by compliancy, she arose one morning to find her heart screaming for a chance to express itself. Following this God-blessed passion, she gathered all her poetic verses and proceeded to publish her first book "Look Left" which created a small phenomenon in Chicago, IL.
Drawing off the excitement of her poetry book, Jes’ka went to work feverishly completing the novel “How We Live” which is based off her own experiences during a summer weekend trip to Miami Beach. This novel encompasses Jes’ka humor and wit, with a natural ability for good storytelling.
2007 is proving to be an exciting year. Not only will fans get to experience the fire and passion of "How We Live", but will get to see a little of Chi-Town Styles in the upcoming novel "Eddie J.” This book is geared to give students a fun, fresh, but realistic perspective of teen choices relevant in today’s world. Already being read by students in Tulsa’s middle schools the novel is noted as a rarity in bringing a voice to the ghetto that is normally ignored.
Jes'ka N.L. Washington is dedicated in using her talent to encourage the joy of reading and relating. She knows the times that are spent in her pages should translate into a chance to escape the chaotic world that developing around us. If you truly want to “Experience Expression” grab a cup of tea and her great books and prepare yourself for an explosion of literacy. |
